Brighten Up a Fall Complexion With Just a Blush of Color

When  I think of autumn, I always think burgundy, cognac, and other hues associated with the changing of the leaves. After all, I grew up jumping into piles of crunchy, freshly raked leaves (there are a lot of trees in Michigan — we kids had to rake our lawn every week, it seemed) and associating the mustard yellow of the bus with the beginning of yet another school year.

So I was quite surprised when I saw how many pale, sheer nails made their appearance on fall runways. It was almost a backlash to seasons of over-the-top nail art and exaggerated eyeliner. Sure, there were still plenty of such only-for-the-runway looks to go around, but the freshest — and most refreshing — beauty looks to me were the ones that made a quiet statement, with the palest of blushes, pinks, and lavenders.

So go against the autumnal grain. Take a cue from the fall runways and maintain your innocence with a halo of skin-brightening pinks and lavenders.
