For once, September weather in L.A. actually feels like autumn. Which is apropos, what with all the fall fashions and beauty trends I’m seeing all over the Web and in magazines. So now’s a good time to experiment with some of the chicest, most wearable beauty looks straight off the fall runways, from a patina’d visage that will make you look like a Florentine princess to a cyber update on a perennial fall favorite. It’s making me a little less sad that summer is practically over.
To achieve the patina of a Florentine painting, like at Naeem Khan above, start with a matte brown shadow on the eyelids. Apply a lipstick in the color of “aged wine,” and then dot bright red lip paint on the center along the edges of the lips for a modern, autumn-inspired take on the ombré lip trend. Pat some of the lipstick on the cheeks for a monochromatic look. Finally, add drama to your look with lush, filled-in brows and an extended tail.

The autumnal perennial of bordeaux and plummy lips gets an update with graphic silver eyes.
At Marissa Webb, makeup artists modernized a classic femme fatale look (red lips, cat-eye liner) with graphic silver accents. They lined the upper lid with a silver liquid liner, but only in the center, and added a dash of silver along the inner half of the lower lid. If you look carefully, some of the models got a dab of silver on their lips as well, on top of the burgundy lipstick, for a subversive edge.
