Beauty Editor’s All-Time Faves From Composure’s Latest Issue

In every issue of Composure, I get to have a totally indulgent, self-serving section of my favorite products for that month. (After all, with my myriad skin care woes — from crazy oily skin to persistent hormonal acne to newfound battle with gravity — I’m the perfect guinea pig for all manner of new skin care products.) Sure, I may have my biases (who doesn’t), but these are the products I’ve tried and tested and fallen in love with. At least until the next month. (Ah, love! Such a fickle thing.)

Thanks to my mom, I’ve been using Estée Lauder since I was a teen. Their skin care is always impressive, and their latest contours eyes with a two-step system. The cooling gel cream tones and hydrates, while the shaping cream fills in fine lines. Estée Lauder New Dimension Firm+Fill Eye System, $79, esteelauder.com

The geniuses who brought you blowouts on-the-go provide hair products as innovative as they are effective, from their purple shampoo to their latest — a dry conditioner for instant smoothing and texture. Drybar Detox Dry Conditioner, $23, thedrybar.com

Sunscreen and oily skin go hand-in-hand like, well, oil and water. But this mineral sunscreen not only protects with a whopping 13% zinc oxide, it goes on like silk and mattifes to boot. Paula’s Choice Resist Super-Light Daily Wrinkle Defense SPF 30, $32, paulaschoice.com

Biotech skin care brand Algenist harnesses the natural hues of microalgae, from blue to golden, in their new color correcting line, which makes covering my dark spots effortless. Algenist Reveal Anti-Aging Serum Foundation, $48, and Concentrated Color Correcting Drops in Green, $38, algenist.com

For a hair illiterate like me, this is the closest I’ll get to having a stylist on call. Each product in the collection does exactly what it claims, and more. Their texture spray should be called Instant Texture, Waves and Volume; it’s that good. Living Proof Instant Texture Mist, $27, livingproof.com

Everything La Mer makes is perfection, and their latest is no exception: a satiny skin treatment that creates a soft-focus canvas so that makeup looks amazing. I plan on using this as a morning mask, post-serum and pre-moisturizer, while I have my morning coffee. La Mer The Perfecting Treatment, $240, lamer.com

I consider this a bronzing BB cream for my legs — it moisturizes, covers imperfections, reflects light and is water-resistant until I wash it off. Vita Liberata Body Blur Instant HD Skin Finish, $45, sephora.com

When I need to look extra good, I use this genius morning mask. Created by Korean actress Ha Jiwon, this Spanx-for-your-face goes on a bit tacky, but then melts into skin, creating a taut veil that “grips” your makeup all day. J.One Jelly Pack, $42, glowrecipe.com

With cool collaborations and daring shades that make a rookie feel like a makeup artist, M.A.C never fails to excite. Some of my fave lip colors are by M.A.C, and their latest is a serious contender: an oil-infused lip gloss-meets-stain that lasts. M.A.C Versicolour Stain in Energy Shot, $24, maccosmetics.com

British skin care company Deciem’s high-tech, well-formulated serums saved my skin this past winter, including this one, which features five different forms of hyaluronic acid to get deeper into skin’s layers. Hylamide SubQ Anti-Age, $38, deciem.com

You always have such good picks! That jelly pack sounds amazing. Feeling like my lines and elasticity especially in the forehead area have not been the same since I have hit my late 30s. 😦
